HamCup Mini Zoo And Cafe at Jalan Irving in George Town offers a casual cafe experience with a local twist — blending simple comfort food with a small but varied menagerie of pets. This spot is clearly designed for people who want to unwind over a relaxed bite while spending some time around animals beyond the usual café scene.

Stepping inside, the cafe maintains a clean and tidy atmosphere distinct from the typical pet cafe smell, which helps food and animal interactions feel separate but complementary. The dining area is calm, with enough space to keep things comfortable even when you’re the only table, as sometimes happens during quieter afternoons. Parking is straightforward here, a small but practical bonus given the busier surrounds of George Town.

The pet-friendly setup is a standout feature: a handful of hamsters, guinea pigs, and even a duck share space with roaming cats, a corgi, rabbits, and surprisingly, a little goat. The animals are well cared for and happy to engage under supervision, making this an ideal place for families with young children or pet lovers looking for a gentle way to connect with different creatures. The cafe also has a small play area with kitchen toys, keeping kids entertained in a friendly, informal space.

As for the food, the selection here leans toward comforting, home-style dishes with local and international influences. Options like mushroom soup, bacon carbonara, and a crispy cheeseburger are easygoing and satisfying. The watermelon jasmine tea ice-blended drink and garlic bread receive quiet nods from regulars for being particularly well-prepared without fuss. The portions are reasonable, and prices align with the casual, approachable vibe of the place.

This café fits well into daily life for locals seeking a down-to-earth spot where you can briefly step away from urban rush to enjoy simple food and some low-key animal company. Its calm afternoon lulls make it well suited to casual visits when you want to read, work quietly, or spend some easy time with younger family members. If you’re someone who enjoys all things local and slightly quirky, or a pet owner keen to bring your furry friend along, HamCup Mini Zoo And Cafe offers a gentle niche away from typical coffee chains and restaurant crowds.

Carpark: we visited this cafe on thursday around 3pm. Not busy, we are the only table in the cafe. 1 Customer carpark available for the cafe. Pets: Lots of pets besides guinea pig n hamsters. Reptiles, cats, a corgi, rabbit, ducks, a cute goat etc. My 2 yr old enjoys petting and observing the animals. All pets looks well taken care of. Some are confined in cage. Cats allowed to roam around. The staffs escorts while we are in the pet area. No limitation of re-entering the pet area. All the pets looks in good hands to us. Food: we ordered hainanese chicken chop, mushroom soup, fish n chips kids meal, salad and milk tea. Portion is just right and we find all of the food ordered are good. We are happy with the meal. Took some time for the meal to be served but we are roaming happily in the pet area during the wait. Atmosphere: Cozy home style cafe. Mild smell of the pets upon entering. Mainly from the goat, Yang yang. But its acceptable and expected. No any negative feelings about this. Staffs are kind and helpful.

My daughter absolutely loved this place and had the best time interacting with the friendly and well-cared-for pets. The staff were very kind and helpful, always ready to assist us — thank you for that! The food was delicious and definitely worth the price. They also have a lovely little play area for kids with kitchen and cooking toys, where my daughter felt completely at home. It was such a joyful experience seeing her so happy and comfortable throughout our visit. Thank you once again to the Hamcup Mini Zoo Café team for creating such a welcoming and family-friendly environment. We truly had a great time and will definitely visit again!

Lunch was great , parking are easy to find due to not crowded like other area. The staff are friendly too , although their a bit shy to make conversation , the dining place and the animal room are separated and the place is tidy and clean , there's no smell of animal while you enjoy your meal. I would go again in the future and bringing my friends or even pets with me to visit. Theres also menu for pets. Which you could buy and treat your pet.

A nice pet-friendly little cafe with a bunch of cute animals to play with for a few minutes while you wait for your food to be served. There appears to be hamsters and guinea pigs and yes, even a duck in a cage placed in the back section (for customer and animal interaction). A few cute and friendly cats prowl around and curiously come up to customers for a quick pat and cuddle. Food wise, portions are huge and the taste is nice for a pet-themed cafe. Chicken chop, pasta and mushroom soup were served freshly prepared. Satisfying cafe style food. There's a nice selection of beverages too, ranging from mocktail type drinks to milk tea. Good to visit if you love small furry animals and cats as pets!!! **Revisited on 21/06/25**. HamCup has moved to its new location at Jln Irving, a few streets away from their previous location. Now set up in a more spacious old townhouse, with beautiful heritage carved panel screens, setting off a nice ambience for this cafe/mini zoo fusion establishment. Glad to find that the food quality remains high, with portions as generous as ever before. For today's brunch, we enjoyed the delicious Creamy Tomyam Seafood Pasta (fusion yummy perfection), and the Crispy Cheesy Burger (which featured a tender fried chicken chop sandwiched within a bun, and served with golden fries). The mini zoo is at the back section, and the animals from the previous location have been brought along to their new home. Good to see the white duck from the previous place and the addition of a cute baby goat and a few friendly pedigree cats roaming around or resting in the mini zoo section. Drop by for a visit. Perfect cafe and tiny indoor petting zoo for animal lovers and foodies who love fur babies and pets.

Really found my soul back thru this cafe experience. Love the watermelon jasmine tea ice blended drinks. The garlic bread is to die for. Richly made. So good. Mushroom soup is also well made. You can opt for the mushroom soup together with the garlic bread or order the garlic bread separately. The pets here are also well taken care of by the owner and they're not for sale. My favourite go-to-animal there would be the two female prairie dogs. They started with hamsters (I think seeing their animal bio-data on the staircase). The list of animals they have includes a pet pygmy goat, cats, a dog, gui pigs (of course), birds, corgi, dragon beard lizard and more. Well worth the find! Be back here for more next round.

In my opinion best pet cafe in penang, the staffs are friendly and they present a great variety of animals, some you dont see anywhere. 100 out of 10 would recommend. The prices are reasonable and the food delicious. Definitely recommend their belgum chocolate layered cake!!
